Melissa for BPS
Meet Melissa
I graduated from Boston College with a degree in Economics and I also have an MBA from Bentley University. My husband and I moved to Burlington to raise a family. We have two boys: a kindergartener at Fox Hill Elementary School and a preschooler at Mt. Hope Christian School. One of the reasons we chose to live in Burlington was because we know this town supports its schools.
I am currently a manager of product strategy at athenahealth, a healthcare technology company. Prior to my current role, I was a project manager for over 10 years. I am also on the town's Transportation Committee. I am a Parent Representative of Adopt a Class 2034 and fundraiser for Cub Scout pack 105. In my free time I can be found biking, traveling or on the slopes in the White Mountains.
Why do I want to join the School Committee?
Never one to back down from a challenge, I was inspired to run for School Committee to represent the needs of Burlington's current and future families. As an active member of the Fox Hill PTO that has been sidelined by the pandemic, I see the importance of shaping goals and setting policies of our school system. As a member of the School Committee I will work hard to ensure that we continue to maintain excellence and exceed expectations in Burlington schools.
I will ensure that more parents are represented in decision making as we navigate post-pandemic learning. I recognize that my family’s experience may not be the same as yours; I am committed to ensuring that every single student in the Burlington School System receives a world class education that meets their needs and prepares them for success. Please don't hesitate to reach out to share your unique experiences and concerns.
What do I bring to the table?
The ideal School Committee is a team of complementary professionals who bring diverse skills and strengths. I look forward to leveraging my private sector experience in supporting oversight of projects, including major building activities, that the district needs to undertake over the next decade. I also have the expertise to guide the development of a strategy that will support the growing and changing needs of the community during an historically challenging era.
My approach will be enriched by my day to day experiences as a current district parent who is familiar with the unique challenges that our children are facing today. I will respect all stakeholders, whether they be students, parents, teachers, or taxpayers.
